Residents in a quiet Accrington Street woke to find a film crew camped out on their doorsteps.
The technicians took over Carter Street for the day to film scenes for a play to be shown next year as part of BBC 2's Black Screen series.
"Flight" is a gritty drama about a young Asian girl's struggle to break free from her family.
People living in the area were warned in advance about the filming, but a bemused crowd still gathered to watch the proceedings.
Make-up vans and a mobile canteen blocked the terrace street and traffic came to a halt while the actors went through their scenes.
HAPPY
The crew is spending four days in the area filming outside scenes before returning to London.
Idris Ahmed, location manager, said "Before any production start, there are meetings to find out exactly what the producer and director want.
"I then spend a couple of months just driving round finding the best locations.
"When the filming drama about a young starts, my job is to make sure every body is happy - that means the cast and crew as well as the public.
"Everyone living near where we plan to film gets a personal letter and a few people even get a box of chocolates as a thank-you."
Tanika Gupta had her script picked out of hundreds of applications from writers new to television.
"Flight" is based on her experiences when shhe worked in a women's refuge and East Lancashire was chosen as a setting because of its large asian community.
She will be appearing with Roshan Seth, famous for the acclaimed television series "The Buddha of Buburbia" and the film "My Beautiful Laundrette."
